The trailer differs widely from the theatrical trailer and even from the completed film. It starts off with Edward Norton as Derek ranting about lazy immigrants with Jimmy Hendrix's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" playing in the background. You can tell that this test footage taken before the start of filming by looking at Derek's tattoos. The swastika on his chest is only outlined - in the film it is completely filled in. This is interspersed with a scene that includes Edward Furlong (Danny), Fairuza Balk (Stacey), and (Seth) where Danny's head is being shaved. There are a few additional snipets included that didn't make it- a young Doris (Beverly D'Angelo) with a darkhaired boy and Davina (Jennifer Lien) trying to talk to Danny. It then goes on to some more recognizable scenes from the film. The end credits also are different. The song that plays in the background is Rattlesnake by Live off of their album "Secret Samadhi" (another piece of random trivia: Live's Ed Kowalczyk had a small role in Fight Club as a waiter who served the narrator and Marla).
The trailer was posted on the web (Hollywood.com?) in May 1998, but it was eventually replaced by the theatrical trailer and was removed. I haven't had the space to post it, but with the move to the new server, here it is.
Another early trailer, one is for Rounders, differs from its theatrical trailer. Click here to take a look!
Do not link directly to audio/video clips on the edward-norton.org server. I am allowed only a certain amount of traffic by my website host. Linking directly my files, especially to large audio/video clips, dramatically increases my traffic. The money to run this site comes out of my pocket alone and I make no money off the site (nor am I trying to do so). So either link to my pages or upload the clips to your own server. I posted these clips so people would have an opportunity to hear interviews and see trailers that would otherwise be unavailable to them. I am not here to pay for your website. Please be courteous so that everyone can enjoy these clips.
