Image from "Bible Burlesque" from the 29th Street Rep website August 27- November 9, 2002: Edward Norton and Catherine Keener in Burn ThisI have limited information on Edward Norton's theatrical work. EN became interested in acting at the age of 5 or 6, started taking lessons, and performed in many plays in his hometown of Columbia, MD and then while he was at Yale. He made the decision to pursue acting full-time in 1993. The description for EN in the Primal Fear press information mentions that he has "appeared in numerous plays including the premiere of Edward Albee's 'Fragments' and in productions of Brian Friel's 'Lovers' and John Patrick Shanley's 'Italian American Reconciliation.'" Interviews with EN have discussed only part of his NY theater experiences, so please be aware that this is the best info I have. I'm also not sure of the chronology of what plays were done when and for how long. Here is what I know. EN took acting lessons at the T. Schreiber Studio in New York City and has continued to be involved with the school. A quote from him
is featured on the front page of the TSS website- "There are so many schools for a young actor arriving
in New York. For me finding the T. Schreiber Studio proved to be an enormous blessing." EN was the Master of Ceremonies at TSS's 1999 Gala
Benefit dinner 1999 which honored Betty Buckley and Roger Berlind with the "Life in the Theatre" Achievement Award. For the 2000 Gala Dinner
honoring Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson, EN served as the chair for the Honorary Committee. EN is also on TSS's Advisory Board. Unfortunately,
I have no pictures or information on EN's projects as a TSS student.

role of Christian Pilgrim in Bill Nave's allegorical 'Bible Burlesque'. Click here to
read a review of the production as well as see another picture of EN from the play. 29th Street Rep. also lists EN on their advisory Board
and on the list of contributors. This is part of the description given on the website: "29th Street Rep was founded in April 1988 by five actors
with a common goal: to produce exciting and visceral theater."
![]() Edward Norton in the Signature Theatre Company's production of "Fragments" The Signature Theatre Company has been the subject of most of EN's conversations about his theater days. From their website: "Signature Theatre Company is the only theatre in the United States dedicated to season-long explorations of a single living playwright’s body of work. Each season sees a new Playwright-in-Residence involved in every aspect of the creative process." As mentioned above, EN appeared in the world premiere of Edward Albee's "Fragments (A Concerto Grosso)" in April 1994. Albee has described the play as "an experiment in dramatic structure for eight solo voices." Edward Norton is on Signature's Board of Directors. Norton interviewed Signature's artistic director and founder James Houghton (who directed "Fragments") for a May 1998 article published in Interview magazine entitled "Theater that's Making a Mark". Norton also took the photos that accompanied the article. Read the article. I have requested further information and photos on Edward Norton's theater work from his representatives at Endeavor Talent Agency. To date, those requests have gone unanswered.
