Fight Club release date
|
|
After many differing reports, the current release date for Fight Club is August 6th (telephone conversation 20th Century Fox 4/27/99).
Apparently Fight Club is one of the movies in the running to have its trailer shown before Star Wars: The Phantom Menace-

Only in America
|
|
Info on an older project done by Edward Norton has been found by Joanne. There is a video called Only in America (shot before
Primal Fear) which consists of eight short segments, five of which
include Norton. This video (actually it seems to be two videos and a workbook) is apparently supposed to be used as a tool for teaching the English language.
www.viney.uk.com, a website by the creators of the video, have a few pages on the Only in America video, including
a trailer (clips of the segments put to music) and a page on Edward Norton describing his involvement in the project (along with a picture).
Go to the website!. Okay, off topic, I stumbled into the Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos) website- which is a movie from
Spain. I became completely intrigued with it through the website (particularly the music)- Has anyone seen the movie?

AFI special moved

Due to the tragic events at Columbine High, the AFI special was replaced with a Nightline Town Meeting. When a new air date is announced,
I will post it on the site. Entertainment Tonight will preview summer films on Friday's edition (4/23/99).

Fight Club not going to Cannes

AFI website. Will Fight Club go to the Cannes Film Festival? Probably not, it hasn't been mentioned in any of the early articles on the film festival. However,
the official list of films will be released on this Thursday and I'll let you know either way. Entertainment Tonight's website has a Summer Movie Preview
which features a paragraph summary and a new picture from Fight Club- but unfortunately lists a later release date [Thanks to
Joanne and buddylove for the info!].
It now lists a date of August 6. Access Hollywood's upcoming weekend edition will feature a summer movie preview [Thanks to
Joanne for the info!].

Just a small update- The May issue of Movieline magazine mentions Fight Club in an article on movies to see after the Phantom Menace and includes a full page picture of Edward Norton and

Fight Club pushed to fall
|
|
Looks like an Edward Norton weekend- American History X just came out for video rental and Rounders will be on pay-per-view starting on Friday (4/9).
Also, if you are in Blockbuster Video, one of the promo tapes that they play in the store apparently has a nice segment on Edward Norton; there is a half a page on Norton in
Biopix presents: Hollywood's Hottest Hunks [Thanks to susanetler for both pieces of info!] The British version of GQ magazine has an interview with Edward Norton,
mentioning him as one of their men of the month [Thanks to happy0309 for the info!]. I'm now gradually shifting to an easier-to-remember
url: www.edward-norton.com. It's the same page, just a new location. Oh, most importantly about this address, don't forget the dash in the url or you
won't reach the page.

EN TV segments
|
|
Check the VCR/Mag alert page for new entries. Access Hollywood will have a segment on tonight (Mon 3/29) that includes Edward Norton (related to the Oscars?)
[Thanks to Joanne for the info!]. Also, I would imagine that the entertainment news programs such as Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight and E! News Daily will
mention the upcoming project A Soldier of the Great War
|
A Soldier of the Great War
|
|
The smoke is clearing on A Soldier of the Great War. If you read below, there has been conflicting info as to whether Edward Norton will be producing
and starring in the film or just producing. With no corrections and no news emerging,
I called Endeavor, the agency which represents Edward Norton. The information that I received was that the report of his starring in the film
was premature, but it most likely will happen. A Soldier of the Great War

A Soldier of the Great War
Confusion
|
|
There is already some confusion about Edward Norton's involvement in A Soldier of the Great War (which I mention right below).
Contrary to my understanding of the Variety article, the Reuters' version of the article reports that Norton will produce AND star in
the movie. While I wouldn't terribly mind being wrong in this case, I believe the Variety article just says that he will produce the movie. So
who are you going to believe, me or Reuters? Okay, bad question. Why don't you take a look at the Variety article (and the Reuters version) and decide for
yourself. Go to the article!

A Soldier of the Great War
announced
|
|
Cheer up! Variety.com reports that Edward Norton has a new project in the works. He will be producing (along with Rounders screenwriters
David Levien and Brian Koppelman) a film adaptation of one of his favorite novels, A Soldier of the Great War by Mark Helprin, for Miramax. Before you get too excited there is no
mention of whether Norton will direct or act in the film. Read more about the project in the Variety story- Norton goes off to 'War'

AHX coming to video, AFI
specials, Fight Club release date
|
|
Well, the Best Actor Oscar went to Roberto Benigni and I have received several emails from depressed fans. In response, I thought I should mention upcoming programs that include Edward Norton, so put down the Prozac and
keep reading. You will be able to see his Academy award nominated performance when American History X comes to video stores on April 6. He participated in the American Film Institute's special
AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute to Dustin Hoffman which will air Thursday, April 22 on ABC. Edward is included in another AFI special: he is one of 50 stars paying tribute to
legendary actors and actresses in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars special airing in June on CBS. The release date for Fight Club is slightly sooner than expected: the date announced at the
ShoWest convention was July 8 (compared to July 30). Edward will star and make his directorial debut in the romantic comedy Keeping the Faith which begins production in June.

Saturday Night Live hosted by Drew Barrymore (3/20/99) included a pretaped black and white parody of VH-1's Behind the Music on 70's pair "Captain and Tennille". Tennille was portrayed by Barrymore while the Captain turned out to be

KTF info from Jenna Elfman
|

The Sunday edition (3/14/99) of the Los Angeles Times has a feature on Jenna Elfman in their Calendar section. Part of the article includes how she was cast in Keeping
the Faith, Edward Norton's next project (it will also be his directing debut).

EN TV segment, ShoWest doesn't
include Fight Club
|
|
E! News Weekend (3/12-3/14/99) has a very good segment on Edward Norton, with clips from American History X and Primal
Fear. It also includes a clip of Edward Furlong (from ShoWest) talking about Norton's nomination and comments by Edward Norton on his reactions
to his current nomination and his best supporting actor Oscar nomination for Primal Fear. E! News Weekend will repeat a few times over the weekend.
Check your local listings or go to E! Online's program guide.
ShoWest (the convention where studios unveil the coming year's movies to the theater owners) was held from March 8-11. The presentation by 20th Century Fox on Wednesday
was primarily devoted to the debut of the second Star Wars: the Phantom Menace trailer. What does this have to do with Edward Norton? Unfortunately, this presentation
didn't include any clips from Fight Club. Last years convention included clips from Rounders and American History X (from their respective studios). I was hoping to
hear some reactions to a preview of Fight Club, but I guess we'll have to wait a little longer--July 30 if the release date on Movieweb is correct.

The Oscar luncheon was held Monday (3/8/99) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and it was broadcast live via streaming video on
Oscar.com. Video clips from the luncheon will be available soon on the site. Don't get too excited, Edward Norton was not one of the nominees that was interviewed in the press room
before the luncheon. Oscar.com just put up video clips for the nominees of the major categories-- the one for Edward Norton is the
American History X trailer, not a specific scene from the movie.

AFI Salute to Dustin Hoffman
|
|
Both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter covered the American Film Institute's tribute to Dustin
Hoffman in their 2/22/99 editions. Both have several actors' comments on Hoffman. Variety mentions the following:
Edward Norton went off script to relate a tale of meeting the actor on the set of American Buffalo when Norton was in L.A. to test for his first
film, Primal Fear. "For me it was a disastrous audition," said Norton. "He listened and asked, ‘Did they pluck the hair between your eyes to make you look prettier?’
They did! Not a good sign Hoffman replied, they did that to me on The Graduate. Norton went on to thank the honoree for paving the way for Norton’s generation of
performers in his daring choices and in rising to the top on merit, not movie star looks.
To read the entire Variety story,
click here! Visit the AFI home page to read more about the tribute- Dustin Hoffman: American Actor. The tribute will be
broadcast later this spring. There are magazine mentions of Edward Norton- go to VCR/magazine alert. Here is another interesting mention from
Entertainment Weekly (greatest television moments cover) in an Oscar column- "In Love and War":
With such a kaleidoscopic cast of contenders, even some of the nominees expressed surprise. When a New Line
executive informed Edward Norton he'd been nominated for Best Actor, Norton responded, "For what?"

EN at AFI salute

E! News Weekend had a segment on Dustin Hoffman receiving a lifetime achievement award from the American Film
