Monday, EN was one of the actors that spoke at a meeting between the
SAG/AFTRA actor unions and the studio and network executives about industry concerns.
EN spoke about runaway production (where studios choose to film in Canada and other
countries rather than the U.S. due to tax incentives and cash rebates) and problems
that were experienced on The Score, which filmed in Canada. For the story,

After thumbing through "A Child's Garden of Cons," Homer and Bart go on a con man's spree. With Grampa's help, they con the retirement home residents out of their money, until they get nailed by an FBI undercover agent. Edward Norton guest stars. NO HART'S WAR FOR EN- The Hollywood Reporter (9/27/00) announced that Edward Norton has dropped out of Hart's War. "[MGM] attributed the parting to 'creative differences.' The Actor
|
|
The Actor- Edward Norton talks a little more about possibly doing a film with writer/director Conor McPherson ("The Weir") in an Irish Times (9/16/00) article. Read the whole article [Thanks to
Joanne for the info!]
"I'd love to do it, but there's all that usual stuff about getting the studio to do it the right way...It's tentatively called The Actor and it's a wonderful kind of a farce, almost like Tootsie, about a young, not very good actor, who works as a dresser for an
older, famous hasbeen actor in his regional company, touring Shakespeare. He's playing sword-carrier number two roles and trying to decide if he's cut out for a life in the theatre. It involves him being able to play all these different characters brilliantly in real life, but he's never able to translate it into his work on the stage."

New Project, Deauville Festival,
Painted Veil
|
|
POSSIBLE EDWARD NORTON PROJECT?- The last few days have seen a lot of activity- new articles and EN's appearance at the Deauville Film Festival. One of the articles (GMTV Q & A with Edward Norton )
includes EN mentioning that he is "hoping to do a film with Irish writer Conor McPherson('The Weir')... It's one of the funniest screenplays I ever read and I really hope it comes off in the spring." [Thanks to
storm for the article!] Plus I've
accumulated all of the info I have on the Deauville Film Fest (most of which came from
Joanne) onto one page- Deauville Film Festival page. Along with the new articles comes the uncertainty of another Edward Norton
project- The Painted Veil. The Painted Veil was supposed to start filming in the fall (Variety 2/25/00). In the most recent articles, The Painted Veil is never mentioned. EN instead brings up another upcoming project - Hart's War
(which is supposed to start filming in Prague in January)- and taking time off beforehand. Unfortunately, my efforts to find out the status of The Painted Veil and his other upcoming film projects have been unsuccessful. For UK RESIDENTS, there is a Keeping the
Faith competition where you can win a KTF soundtrack or KTF T-shirt.
